EFFL endorses Boakai-Koung's Ticket …plans to provide Self Security for Opposition Candidates
A young but fast growing political party, the Economic Freedom Fighters of Liberia has officially endorsed the Boakai-Koung's Ticket.
The move by the young party appears to be a new additional boost for the opposition block in the race for the nation's top job, the Presidency.
The political institution with just eight months of existence is participating in the political process for the first time but without feeding a Presidential candidate.
However, the Party has thirty-two legislative candidates across the country, two Senatorial candidates and thirty Representative candidates respectively.
Speaking at a news conference in Monrovia, the Party's Commander in Chief, Emmanuel Gonquoi told reporters that their quest to support Unity Party(UP) Candidates is derived from the alleged suffering of the Liberian people and the lack of Jobs opportunities for citizens across the country.
"We must put an end to this bad governance structure; there is a need for government officials to work in the interest of the people," Mr. Gonquoi emphasized.
The EFFL led by Mr. Gonqoui, announced his resolute backing for the Unity Party's Rescue Mission despite facing off against a Unity Party Candidate for the senatorial seat in Margibi County.
However, his unwavering support for the rival party, UP in the Senatorial race within Margibi County has ignited a firestorm of controversies.
At a news conference, Mr. Gonquoi also revealed that the EFFL has reached a decision to deploy what he called Defender of Revolutionaries (DORs) aimed to safeguard opposition leaders.
He attributed their latest decision to alleged lack of trust in State's Security apparatus in the country.
At the same time, the EFFL head accused state security forces of being partial in the discharge of their duties alleging that they have turned into the sole protectors of the President alone instead of the entire citizenry, a move, he stated, has so far raised eyebrows across the political corridors of the country.
According to political analysts, the shocking and unexpected alliance between the EFFL and Unity Party coupled with allegations of political interference from regional bodies, has the potential to reshape the political landscape in an unprecedented way.
Well, with emotions running high and the future of Liberia's democracy hanging in the balance, the only certainty is that the nation is headed for uncharted territory, they are.
Meanwhile, the EFFL’s support for the 'Rescue Mission' and its unprecedented move to protect opposition leaders are sending shockwaves through the political corridors of the country.
As the countdown to the October polls begins, the nation watches with bated breath to see how these dramatic events will unfold, and whether Liberia's political trajectory will be forever altered.
