LNP Suspends Officers Over Forced Entry Into Rep. Kolubah’s Vehicle Amid Political Tensions

The Liberia National Police (LNP) has suspended two officers after an internal investigation found them culpable in the unauthorized forced entry into Monsterrado County District number ten Representative Yekeh Y. Kolubah’s vehicle at the Capitol Building.

The controversial incident, which sparked political outcry and public criticism, was allegedly ordered by Majority Bloc Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon during the ongoing leadership dispute in the Legislature.

The officers, Chief Inspector of Police Frank P. Banda (ID# 5396) and Sergeant Sam C.F. Karbah (ID# 4248), were found guilty of professional misconduct by the LNP’s Professional Standards Division (PSD).

Banda received a two-month suspension without pay for unlawfully entering the vehicle, while Karbah was suspended for one month without pay for forcefully unlocking the car.

The incident, which involved the gray Nissan Jeep belonging to Rep. Kolubah, took place in the parking space designated for Speaker J. Fonati Koffa, whom Kolubah openly supports.

His refusal to recognize Koon’s leadership in the ongoing legislative dispute led to the vehicle being forcibly unlocked using a drill on orders from Koon.

Rep. Kolubah, an outspoken lawmaker from District #10, Monsterrado County, later alleged that valuables were stolen from his vehicle, including $25,000 USD, 2 million Liberian dollars, an iPhone, a laptop, and jewelry worth $2,500 USD. He has accused security forces of orchestrating a politically motivated act of harassment.

The police investigation confirmed that civilian contractor Jack Traore, the individual who drilled the driver’s door, will also be brought in for questioning.

Authorities have also announced plans to review security camera footage and question all individuals seen at the scene to determine their involvement in the alleged theft.

However, the suspensions have done little to quell the controversy, as opposition lawmakers and civil society groups are demanding a full-scale independent investigation into the role of high-ranking officials in the incident. Some critics argue that the officers were merely following orders and that the real accountability lies with the political figures who directed the action.

With the political divide in the Legislature deepening, the forced vehicle entry has become yet another flashpoint in the power struggle between the Majority Bloc led by Majority Bloc Speaker Koon and the Minority Bloc loyal to Embattled Speaker Koffa.

Lawmakers aligned with Kolubah insist that the incident was a deliberate attempt to intimidate opponents of Koon’s leadership.

Meanwhile, Rep. Kolubah has vowed to take legal action against those responsible, calling the act "a violation of my rights and a gross abuse of power." His legal team is reportedly preparing to file a formal complaint, demanding compensation for the losses incurred.

For now, the police investigation remains ongoing, with further disciplinary measures possible if evidence links the officers to the missing funds and valuables.

The Crimes Services Division has been placed on alert to take over the case if criminal charges become necessary.

Public reaction has been mixed, with some citizens applauding the police for enforcing discipline within their ranks, while others see the suspensions as scapegoating lower-ranking officers to protect the politicians who ordered the act. Calls for justice continue to mount, and all eyes are now on the authorities to see whether this case will lead to real accountability.
