Lofa Roads Near Completion

Superintendent Hon. J. Lavelah Massaquoi has praised the China Henan International Cooperation Group (CHICO) for accelerating work on the long-delayed Lofa road project, calling recent progress a “major breakthrough” for the county.

The superintendent’s commendation followed a December 7, 2025, visit to the CHICO worksite, where he personally assessed the scale of construction and expressed gratitude on behalf of Lofa residents.

After years of inactivity, particularly along the Gorlu stretch that had stalled since 2022, CHICO has returned with renewed energy and intensified asphalt paving operations.

According to engineers on site, the asphalt layer is projected to reach Salayea City early next year, representing one of the largest milestones for the project in recent memory.

Preparations are already underway to extend the pavement from Salayea to Konia, ensuring continuous connectivity across northern Lofa County.

Superintendent Massaquoi described the developments as “a critical boost to Lofa’s connectivity, trade, and long-awaited infrastructure transformation,” highlighting the significance of the project for local communities.

He emphasized that reliable road access is essential for unlocking economic opportunities for farmers, traders, and small businesses who have long suffered from poor transport links.

The superintendent also applauded CHICO for mobilizing equipment, personnel, and materials efficiently, noting that the renewed pace of work reflects a strong commitment to project completion.

“We are encouraged by the visible progress. The people of Lofa are watching with hope and anticipation as their long-awaited infrastructure dream moves closer to reality,” Massaquoi said.

County officials reaffirmed their full support for CHICO and pledged to maintain close oversight to ensure adherence to timelines and quality standards.

The Lofa corridor, once considered one of the most challenging infrastructure projects in the region, is now emerging as a model of effective collaboration between government authorities and international contractors.

Local business leaders have welcomed the progress, noting that better roads will facilitate trade, reduce transportation costs, and improve access to health and educational services.

Community members, many of whom have endured years of difficult travel conditions, expressed optimism that the road’s completion would transform daily life and regional mobility.

Massaquoi also highlighted the strategic importance of the corridor in connecting northern Liberia to broader national and regional markets, enhancing both economic integration and social development.

With construction moving at an accelerated pace, the superintendent expressed confidence that the Gorlu–Salayea–Konia stretch would be completed on schedule, signaling a new era of connectivity and opportunity for Lofa County.
