Agric Ministry Eyes Public Private Partnership Fertilizers
The Deputy Minister for Planning and Development at the Ministry of Agriculture has stressed the need for private –public partnership with the Liber Sanitation Incorporated in order to produce more fertilizer for farmers in Liberia
Minister David Arqui said the public-private partnership will eventually strengthen the Libra Sanitation Incorporated in producing more fertilizers for onward distribution to farmers in the vegetable and fruits sectors.
Minister Arqui made the proposal at the ended a one-day assessment visit to the fertilizers production plant owned and operated by the Libra Sanitation Incorporated in Kortu Town, just behind the College of Agriculture and Forestry in Fendell in the Township of Louisiana.
According to Minister Aqui welcomed efforts by the Libra Sanitation Incorporated to produced fertilizer locally as it will eventually boost production by farmers
He expressed satisfaction that a Liberian company has begun the production of organic fertilizer instead of using chemicals and other substances imported from abroad for agricultural purposes in the country.
For his part, the Chief Executive Officer of the Liber Sanitation Incorporated, Emmanuel Howe, said as a company that been in the solid waste for the last 20 years, it is the vision of him and his late brother George Howe to transform solid waste into fertilizer to supply all Liberian farmers with fertilizers needed for farming.
Mr. Howe appealed to the Liberian government for support in order to increase production organic fertilizer for the farmers in the country rather than relying on imported chemicals
Presently, the Libra Sanitation Fertilizer Plant has in it’s employ twelve persons including females and they are all provided the necessary protective gears
At the end of the visit, Minister Arqui was taken on a guided tour of the Liber Sanitation Incorporated Fertilizer Plant including its production sites, warehouses and storage facilities.
