Economic Empowerment for Foya Women: Nyumalin Donates Truck Ahead of Major Road Project

FOYA, Lofa County:  In what many residents described as a major boost to women’s empowerment and local commerce, Local Government Minister Hon. Francis Sackilla Nyumalin has donated a brand-new truck to marketers in Foya District ahead of the groundbreaking ceremony for the long-awaited Voinjama-Mendikorma road project.

The donation was made during a high-level stakeholders’ engagement held Friday in Foya, as citizens and local authorities prepare to welcome President Joseph Nyumah Boakai for Saturday’s historic launch of the road project.

Minister Nyumalin said the gesture is aimed at strengthening the economic activities of women marketers who continue to play a critical role in sustaining families and driving local trade across the district.

He praised the women of Foya for their resilience, hard work, and contributions to national development, while also recognizing their active participation before and during the 2023 Presidential and Legislative Elections.

“This support is intended to help our hardworking women expand their businesses and improve their livelihoods,” Minister Nyumalin stated during the program.

The National President of the Liberia Marketing Association, Madam Lusu S. Crawford, officially received the vehicle before turning it over to the leadership of the Foya District Marketing Association.

In an additional show of commitment, the Local Government Minister disclosed that the truck has already been insured for one year, while the salary of the assigned driver for the same period will be personally paid by him.

Women marketers in the district welcomed the donation with excitement and appreciation, describing it as a timely intervention that will ease transportation challenges and strengthen business operations within the area.

The donation comes as anticipation builds across Lofa County for the official commencement of the Voinjama-Mendikorma road project, a development expected to significantly improve transportation, trade, and economic connectivity in the region.
