Pres. Boakai Welcomes 36-Month U.S. Visas Access

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has warmly welcomed the United States’ decision to extend the validity of key nonimmigrant visas for Liberians, increasing the term from 12 months to 36 months.

The revision, announced by the U.S. Department of State, applies to B1 (Business), B2 (Tourism), and B1/B2 (Business/Tourism Combination) visas, allowing eligible Liberians multiple entries over a three-year period without a reciprocity fee.

President Boakai described the move as a demonstration of the enduring partnership between Liberia and the United States, rooted in mutual respect, shared democratic values, and a commitment to progress.

“This decision will ease travel for Liberians, reduce administrative burdens, and strengthen business, investment, and educational exchanges. It reflects growing international confidence in Liberia’s development trajectory and enhances opportunities for our citizens to explore educational, cultural, and economic avenues abroad,” President Boakai said.

The president further emphasized that the extended visa validity will facilitate smoother mobility, enabling Liberians to engage more effectively in global commerce, professional development, and cultural exchange.

“It opens new doors for our citizens while reinforcing our bilateral cooperation with the United States,” he added.

Foreign Affairs Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti also praised the U.S. decision, reaffirming Liberia’s commitment to expanding global mobility for its citizens.

She stated that the administration will continue diplomatic engagement with the United States and other international partners to further enhance opportunities for travel, trade, and collaboration.

The Boakai administration continues to pursue a foreign policy agenda that prioritizes enhancing international partnerships, facilitating mobility for Liberians and expanding global economic, educational, and diplomatic opportunities.

Officials from the Government of Liberia expressed gratitude to the U.S. for this timely and significant gesture, noting that the measure will boost collaboration in tourism, business, academia, and cultural exchange.

“This is a welcome development that strengthens Liberia’s global presence and reinforces the mutual trust between our nations,” President Boakai added.

Liberian travelers, businesspersons, and students are expected to benefit immediately, with reduced application costs, fewer administrative hurdles, and the flexibility to plan long-term travel for professional, educational, and cultural purposes.

Observers hailed the policy change as a milestone in Liberia–U.S. relations, signaling increased confidence in the country’s governance, stability, and commitment to international cooperation.

President Boakai concluded by reiterating the government’s focus on leveraging global partnerships to drive national development, expand opportunities for Liberians, and strengthens the country’s diplomatic and economic ties worldwide.

The extended visa validity, according to analysts, is likely to stimulate trade, investment, and education exchanges, further embedding Liberia into regional and global networks of commerce and knowledge.

With this development, Liberians now enjoy one of the longest multiple-entry visa terms in the region, a reflection of the strengthening bilateral relationship and international recognition of Liberia’s progress.

Both government officials and citizens view the move as a symbol of confidence in Liberia’s stability, governance reforms, and commitment to global engagement.

The U.S. initiative is expected to facilitate smoother cultural, academic, and economic exchanges, allowing Liberians to participate more fully in the global community.

In the coming months, the Government of Liberia plans to sensitize citizens on the benefits of the new visa arrangement and streamline access to ensure that the extended term translates into real opportunities for development, education, and entrepreneurship.

President Boakai concluded that this historic change underscores Liberia’s rising stature on the global stage, reinforcing the message that the country is ready for increased international collaboration, mobility, and investment.
