PUL-Morocco Kiln Media Partnership
The Press Union of Liberia (PUL) and the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco held high-level discussions on Friday, October 3, 2025, aimed at enhancing cooperation and capacity-building initiatives for Liberian journalists and media professionals.
The meeting took place at the Moroccan Embassy in Sinkor, Monrovia, with key representatives from both institutions in attendance.
The engagement follows a series of constructive dialogues between the PUL leadership and the Moroccan Embassy, led by Mr. Lahoucine Rahmouni, Chargé d’Affaires, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthen media infrastructure and promote professional development within Liberia’s press sector.
During the discussions, Mr. Rahmouni briefed the PUL delegation on a range of bilateral and investment initiatives currently being implemented by Morocco in Liberia.
These projects span sectors such as agriculture, energy, trade, education, training, and digital empowerment, highlighting Morocco’s vision of South–South cooperation and African solidarity.
PUL President Julius Kanubah expressed gratitude for the Embassy’s continued engagement with Liberia’s media, noting Morocco’s active participation in the 61st anniversary celebrations of the Press Union of Liberia.
He emphasized the importance of sustained partnerships to address technical, training, and institutional gaps within Liberia’s media landscape.
President Kanubah highlighted that Liberian media continues to play a critical role in democracy and accountability, yet faces challenges in keeping pace with rapid global media transformation.
He appealed to Morocco for support in digital innovation, professional development, and media resilience to bridge these gaps.
“The Kingdom of Morocco’s experience in digital innovation and journalist training presents a valuable opportunity for partnership and shared growth,” Kanubah said.
He further emphasized that enhanced capacity among Liberian journalists would directly contribute to transparent governance and civic engagement.
Mr. Rahmouni reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to supporting Liberia’s national development priorities under the government’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, particularly in advancing media professionalism and freedom of expression.
The discussions are seen as a promising step toward developing a strategic partnership between the Press Union of Liberia and the Kingdom of Morocco, aimed at advancing professional journalism and sustainable media development in the country.
Attending the meeting alongside President Kanubah were Ms. Estelle Liberty, Chairperson of the Anniversary and Resource Mobilization Committee of PUL, and Mr. Edwin Clarke, Technical Advisor of the same committee. From the Moroccan Embassy, Mr. Hossain Asrouti, Counselor, also participated.
The discussions covered potential collaborations in areas such as digital media training, establishment of media resource centers, and exchange programs to expose Liberian journalists to best practices and innovative technologies being applied in Morocco and other African countries.
Both parties recognized the importance of institutional capacity building, particularly for regional and rural journalists, to ensure accurate reporting, ethical standards, and improved outreach across Liberia.
The PUL-Morocco engagement also explored joint programs for professional mentorship, skill enhancement, and digital literacy to prepare Liberian media professionals for emerging challenges in a rapidly evolving information landscape.
President Kanubah noted that these collaborations would strengthen the credibility and resilience of Liberia’s media sector, positioning journalists to better serve the public while maintaining independence and accountability.
The meeting concluded with mutual agreement to formalize the partnership, outlining next steps to implement training workshops, knowledge exchanges, and resource mobilization initiatives designed to elevate media professionalism in Liberia.
In his closing remarks, President Kanubah expressed optimism that the partnership with Morocco would provide sustainable, long-term support to Liberia’s press, ultimately benefiting both journalists and the wider public through enhanced access to reliable information.
