UP Unveils Dec. 6 Rebuilding Plan

The ruling Unity Party (UP) has unveiled plans for a historic restructuring initiative aimed at strengthening its institutional foundation and ensuring its long-term sustainability, as part of preparations for a major national gathering slated for December 6, 2025.

Speaking in Monrovia, UP National Chairman Luther Tarpeh declared that the party was entering a new era of growth and endurance, promising to lay the groundwork for what he described as “a Unity Party built to last centuries.”

“Our party is the only one in Liberia’s history to have peacefully transitioned out of power and later returned. This is why we are focused on building a strong and enduring Unity Party that will continue to serve the Liberian people for the next 200 years,” Tarpeh said proudly.

The planned December 6 event, to be chaired by Grand Cape Mount County Senator Dabah Varpilah, is expected to mark a major turning point in the party’s post-election consolidation drive.

Party insiders say it will feature the unveiling of key reforms, new infrastructural projects, and strategic policy directions designed to strengthen UP’s national presence.

Tarpeh emphasized that the gathering will not only celebrate the party’s political achievements but also signal its readiness to institutionalize internal democracy, build modern offices, and expand its county structures across Liberia.

“In the coming days, Liberians will hear about our new National Party Headquarters and the expansion of our structures in every county. It’s time to establish solid foundations that ensure the Unity Party’s sustainability for generations,” the Chairman disclosed.

Political observers say Tarpeh’s announcement reflects the party’s determination to transform its post-election momentum into tangible institutional strength.

Since returning to power under President Joseph Nyuma Boakai in January 2024, the Unity Party has emphasized reform, unity, and grassroots revival as central to its governance and political vision.

Senator Varpilah, who is spearheading preparations for the December 6 event, has reportedly begun consultations with local chapters and diaspora branches to ensure broad participation.

The senator is expected to play a central role in coordinating logistics, mobilization, and engagement ahead of what many within the party are calling “a defining milestone.”

Sources within the Unity Party confirmed that the upcoming event will also highlight a blueprint for financial self-sufficiency a move intended to reduce overreliance on donor support and strengthen internal accountability.

Chairman Tarpeh noted that the party’s mission now extends beyond electoral victories, focusing instead on institutional permanence and capacity building.

“We are not just preparing for the next election; we are preparing for the next century,” he declared.

He added that the Unity Party’s return to power, after six years in opposition, was a testament to the Liberian people’s trust in its leadership and governance philosophy.

“The people have restored our mandate, and we must honor that trust by building systems that outlive us,” he stated.

Analysts say Tarpeh’s remarks align with President Boakai’s broader governance agenda, which emphasizes reform, accountability, and service delivery under the administration’s ARREST framework focusing on Agriculture, Roads, Rule of Law, Education, Sanitation, and Tourism.

The Unity Party, founded in the 1980s, remains one of Liberia’s most influential political organizations.

It first came to power in 2006 under former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and made history again in 2023 when Joseph Nyuma Boakai led the party back to the Executive Mansion through democratic elections.

As December 6 approaches, expectations are high within political circles that the party will use the platform to consolidate its legacy, attract new supporters, and redefine its ideological identity in Liberia’s evolving democratic landscape.

For Chairman Tarpeh and his team, the message is clear: The Unity Party intends not only to govern but to endure positioning itself as a stable, reform-driven political institution designed to shape Liberia’s destiny for centuries to come.
