We join others in wholeheartedly welcoming the ban of the practice of female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) in Liberia as declared by the Chairperson of the National Council of Chiefs and Elders of Liberia (NACCEL), Chief Zanzan Karwor, during the commemoration of the International Day of Zero Tolerance on FGM held in Sonkay Town, Montserrado County on Monday, February 6, 2023.
In a joint effort to contribute to Liberia’s health delivery system, Change Agent Network Africa Incorporated, a not for profit humanitarian organization based in the United States of America (USA), on Monday, April 17, 2023 signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Office of River Cess County Senator Wellington Geevon-Smith and Young Men’s Christian Association of Liberia (YMCA-Liberia).
We are still concerned about the issue of overcrowdings at the various prisons in the country, particularly the Monrovia Central Prison, and the need to urgently address this seemingly old age problem by the Government of Liberia (GoL) through the relevant government functionaries, mainly the Ministry of Justice(MoJ) cannot be overstated.
Unity Party Standard Bearer, Joseph Nyuma Boakai, has reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that Vahun District becomes fully accessible to the rest of Liberia.
From our vantage point, we want to again encourage our government and its partners as well as all anti-rape crusaders, including the media to leave no stone unturned in ensuring that rape, which is reported to be one of the most serious crimes being committed in the country by unprincipled people, is drastically reduced, if not jettisoned.
In series of our past editorials, we strongly detested violence as a means of solving grievances, because, like we pointed out, violence does not solve problem, but rather exacerbates it.
A monthly feeding program, which was launched sometimes ago by First Lady, Ambassador Clar M. Weah, aimed at reaching out to the elderly people of Liberia in a show of care and love, is highly commendable.
